Skip the Xanax! 4 DIY Ways to Zap Stress for Under $5

When you’re stressed out, tired and achey, there’s no need to reach for expensive solutions! Sometimes, all you need are a couple of items from around the house and a little creativity to unwind on the cheap.
The plastic bottle you were about to throw away, may just be the key to finding a little DIY rest and relaxation on the days when life has you running around in circles.

Time-out glitter bottle
Sometimes you just need to forget about your problems. Distract yourself with the oddly satisfying effects of a little oil and colored water.
Materials:
Plastic Bottle
Water
Vegetable Oil
Food Coloring
Glitter
Sequins
Alka Seltzer
Instructions:
1. Fill about a quarter of the bottle with water.
2. Add 10 drops of food coloring.
3. Fill the rest of the bottle with vegetable oil.
4. Add glitter and sequins.
5. Cut up two alka seltzer tablets into quarters and drop in one at a time.
6. Shake the bottle and watch the magic.

Frozen bottle muscle relief
Next time you leave the house to be on your feet all day, pop a water bottle in the freezer before you go. Your aching arches will thank you when you get home.
Materials:
Plastic bottle
Water
Instructions:
1. Fill plastic bottle about three-quarters with water.
2. Pop in the freezer. (Or add crushed ice, if you can’t wait.)
3. Roll the frozen water bottle over your joints and arches to relieve swelling and aches.

Seascape in a bottle
Who knew a plastic bottle could have such a calming effect? Forget a ship-in-a-bottle, we’ll take the whole sea instead!
Materials:
Plastic bottle
Water
Baby oil
Food coloring
Tiny shells
Tiny rubber sea creatures
Instructions:
1. Fill about a quarter of the bottle with water.
2. Add 1-2 drops of food coloring.
3. Fill the rest of the bottle with baby oil.
4. Add tiny sea creatures and shells.
5. Move the bottle back and forth, and watch your mini seascape come to life.

Rainmaker
Is there anything more soothing than the sound of rain? With just three materials, you can have the sound even when it’s dry outside.
Materials:
Plastic bottle
Dry rice
Toothpicks
Instructions:
1. Fill an empty water bottle with toothpicks.
2. Add a smaller amount of rice.
3. Hold the bottle sideways and rotate to hear the soothing sound of rain.
